Meet Ahmad: A Syrian Refugee
A bit about Ahmad:
Ahmad is a Syrian Kurd, born in Aleppo. He studied English Language and Literature before fleeing the Kurdistan region of Iraq because of the civil conflict. He worked there as a volunteer teaching English in the Syrian refugee camps and later joined the United Nations to work for the Syrian Refugee Response and the Iraqi Displaced People Response. His work gave him the opportunity to be in direct contact with people who have survived horrendous situations. He has worked with Christians, Yazidis, Kurds Arabs and Turkmans fleeing war in both Syria and Iraq.
After a stay in the Kurdish region of Iraq, he had to flee due to security threats and decided to travel to the U.K. to complete his M.A. and become an academic, with the ultimate aim of returning to Syria to contribute to the rebuilding the country.
